わたしたちのまちのALT~ALTを紹介します~

altによる外国語活動

藤枝市では、児童生徒が中学校を卒業する時には、英語で簡単な日常会話ができるように、英語運用能力を高めるための取り組みに力を入れています。

その一つがALT(外国語指導助手)の活用です。

Fujieda City is like my second city. I live in a nearby city but I have been working here for 9 years. My children are studying in one of Fujieda’s private high schools. They also attend their soccer training here.

The city has been part of our everyday life! I get to know more about Fujieda and it’s people especially my co-workers and  the students. The people are very heartwarming and cheerful.   It’s a lovely place.

As a city ALT, I feel proud that I’m part of Fujieda community.  It’s very close to my heart that’s why I love Fujieda!

I am a high school teacher in Australia. My first trip to Japan was to visit our sister school in Saitama prefecture. It was so wonderful meeting the students in person and getting to speak to them in English. They practiced so hard so we could communicate. I had such an amazing time that I wanted to return to Japan so I became an ALT with the JET programme. I want to help as many students in Fujieda practice English as possible. Fujieda is a wonderful city with so many opportunities for everyone to practice English. If you ever see me, please say hello. I would love to chat with you.

Hi, I’m from the Philippines and I have been living in Fujieda City for more than twenty years now.

Teaching as an ALT in this city I have heard students get discouraged and say things such as: “ I don’t get it. “ or  “This is so hard.” in the classrooms. As teachers we should try to show them their potential and find out what works for them to learn best. The feeling I get when these students change those statements around and into, “ I did it. I can do it. “, is absolutely priceless. This motivates me to be the best teacher I can be for myself, my school and my dear students .

めちゃ - when I first came to Fujieda, my 3rd grade students at Nishmashizu Junior High School taught me this word during school lunch. It was funny to have them teach me some Japanese because back then, I couldn't speak any Japanese at all! It brings back good memories when I hear or say it.

I love teaching English in Fujieda. I've been here for eight years now, and each year it just gets more and more exciting. The Board of Education is really innovative. I think it's really special. Everybody really cares about English and puts a lot of effort into it. We're always thinking of new teaching techniques, games for our classes, fun English events and how to improve on them. It's really awesome to be a part of. I recommend every student try one of our events at least once - they're such a unique way to enjoy conversational English outside of school. I'm very passionate about them! I think that the students here in Fujieda are amazing, too. I always leave our English classes and our events smiling because of them. I honestly feel like our students can communicate so well in English and it's great to connect with them.

Do you like speaking English? I want everyone to enjoy English, but I know it's tough sometimes. I find speaking Japanese tough, too. That's okay though - it's important we let ourselves make mistakes! We can learn more from mistakes than being right the first time. The more mistakes we make, the more we can learn! Let's improve our communication skills together, and then we can all understand each other better.

Watching students learn is a big plus being an ALT. I especially like to see students become excited about English.

English is a subject for everyone and is very inclusive. It can lead the students to help them to learn skills that they can bring to other subjects.

Learning good communication skills will help them and society.
