わたしたちのまちのALT~ALTを紹介します~

altによる外国語活動

藤枝市では、児童生徒が中学校を卒業する時には、英語で簡単な日常会話ができるように、英語運用能力を高めるための取り組みに力を入れています。

その一つがALT(外国語指導助手)の活用です。

It is possible to communicate big ideas with limited language. Don’t feel like you need perfect English before you can go out and have interesting conversations with other people. Make time just to enjoy speaking English.

Fujieda City is like my second city. I live in a nearby city but I have been working here for 9 years. My children are studying in one of Fujieda’s private high schools. They also attend their soccer training here.

The city has been part of our everyday life! I get to know more about Fujieda and it’s people especially my co-workers and  the students. The people are very heartwarming and cheerful.   It’s a lovely place.

As a city ALT, I feel proud that I’m part of Fujieda community.  It’s very close to my heart that’s why I love Fujieda!

Hi, I’m from the Philippines and I have been living in Fujieda City for more than twenty years now.

Teaching as an ALT in this city I have heard students get discouraged and say things such as: “ I don’t get it. “ or  “This is so hard.” in the classrooms. As teachers we should try to show them their potential and find out what works for them to learn best. The feeling I get when these students change those statements around and into, “ I did it. I can do it. “, is absolutely priceless. This motivates me to be the best teacher I can be for myself, my school and my dear students .

We have a lot of great English events in Fujieda. We're lucky here! We have events involving international cooking, international sports as well as a fun and scary Halloween Party, a great summer camp adventure and we'll be hosting a Christmas event, too. They're a lot fun and it's always nice to see the students enjoying themselves while using their English skills!

For a long time, I’ve been someone that’s loved to read and write, but more recently, I’ve been someone who has enjoyed learning languages – French and Japanese specifically – and it’s really interesting teaching English as a foreign language and it's great to see so many students are enthusiastic about learning another language.

Do you like speaking English? I want everyone to enjoy English, but I know it's tough sometimes. I find speaking Japanese tough, too. That's okay though - it's important we let ourselves make mistakes! We can learn more from mistakes than being right the first time. The more mistakes we make, the more we can learn! Let's improve our communication skills together, and then we can all understand each other better.

My name is Russell Silvestrone. I currently live and work in Fujieda.  I arrived in Fujieda about ten years ago.  A few years after arriving in Fujieda I married my Japanese wife.  We now live in Hanashi with our two kids. At school I enjoy helping students learn new things about  themselves and classmates. I also want to help the students of Fujieda build confidence, and learn communication skills through fun English activities.

Message to the public

Watching students learn is a big plus being an ALT. I especially like to see students become excited about English.

English is a subject for everyone and is very inclusive. It can lead the students to help them to learn skills that they can bring to other subjects.

Learning good communication skills will help them and society.
